Eggs!

by Hawkeye the Writer

Before Kathy's second child was born, a small egg dropped out of the Grendel Incubator. The egg was a nasty shade of yellow, green and orange. A head popped out of the egg. The Grendel Mother took one look at the little, lime green head and promptly climbed back into her tree. The baby Grendel said, "Grendel food." It wandered off to the Cable Car and hitched a ride to the Hives.
At the top of the Lighthouse, Kathy and her daughter, Turq, were playing a game called "Levitate". The goal was to see how long you could levitate a carrot. Turq was winning, of course. Her top was 2 1/2 minutes while her mother's was 1 3/4 minutes.
"Nor." Turq said, "Pop's coming wif Twim."
"No, no," said Kathy, "Norn, pop's coming with Tim."
"OK." Turq replied. Just then, Picard and Tim came up on the lift.
"Turq's getting better." Kathy said, gesturing to the floating carrot.
"I have come to take care of the kids. You have to go to the Hives, something's irritating the bees." Picard, her mate, said affectionately.
"Okay," sighed Kathy. So she trudged to the lift and went down toward the pool of water. She had to wait for the raft to come to her side and then she went to the Slide Room.
As she took the lift up to the Hives, she thought about her little boy Tim. He had grown since climbing out of his undersized egg. He would soon
begin his training as the first male Witch-Norn.
When she reached the top she looked around. A dark hideous shadow fell over her as she turned around. "Grendel food," said a hoarse voice that
hissed.
    "Ahhhhh!" screamed Kathy.
    "Narg poo," said the thing.
"Do you understand me?" Kathy asked.
    "Grendel food," it said wistfully.
"Okay," the Grendel watched in amazement as a carrot floated into sight.
"Food!" the Grendel yelled. It ate the carrot and gave Kathy a kiss.
Kathy brought up another carrot and the Grendel gave her a bigger kiss. When she brought up a third the Grendel gave her a huge kiss with a pop at the
end. Kathy was pregnant! Kathy stared at the Grendel for a moment then she walked the Cable Car. Then an idea came to her. She walked into the Cable Car; the Grendel followed like an obedient dog.
Back at the Lighthouse, Picard was getting worried. It had been 15 whole minutes since his mate had left. Turq was teaching her little brother Tim all she knew about being a Witch-Norn. Picard sighed it was a tough life being a mate to a Witch-Norn. Well, he thought, Kathy can take care of herself.

At the Grendel Tree.
Kathy was panting very heavily. She was hugging the Grendel close to her. An egg appeared next to Kathy, it was red and yellow. Kathy suddenly felt
very drowsy. She fell asleep with a large smile. The Grendel dropped Kathy to the ground and went over to the egg. He picked it up and put it with his
other eggs.
Kathy woke up 2 or 3 minutes later. She ate a couple of carrots and looked around. He was trying to eat her egg! "Noooo!" Kathy screamed. Without
thinking she ran right at the Grendel and punched him. The Grendel let loose a howl of rage and punched an egg. A gapping hole appeared in the side and a small body of a baby grenorn oozed out of the hole. The Grendel paused to lick his fist. After tasting the egg yolk he went mad. His fists were
everywhere and punched everything. Finally, something in Kathy snapped and she picked up her egg and ran.

Kathy had placed her egg in the incubator and it was hatching. A baby grenorn rolled out of the incubator. "Poo narg," said the little tike. When it looked at Kathy it said, "Norn," and crawled over crying piteously.
